Magic reveal Christmas pixel art is a super neat way to incorporate math and technology into a fun learning activity!

We are super fans of the magic reveal pixel art that we've seen around the web and decided to have a go at making our own!

I like to think I'm something of a Microsoft Excel guru since I basically got through college making pivot tables for everything I needed to analyze! Why not work with conditional formatting, since it's something I could absolutely teach my almost teen to do!

She'll be writing a post on conditional formatting and how it relates to coding concepts pretty soon!

A few years ago, we made these awesome Christmas pixel pictures that are a great way to introduce image representation on computers as well as work on number and color recognition.

What is Pixel Art?

Computers break pictures down into tiny blocks of color known as pixels.

A pixel is a unit of a digital image, typically a tiny square that has a single color. Pixel is short for picture element.

Pixels are organized in a grid and each block contains a single color. When you combine the pixels, they create pictures.

The more pixels there are, the higher the resolution the picture has. High-resolution pictures are more detailed and appear smoother than low-resolution pictures.
